Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a teeth-straightening method that gradually shifts your teeth into alignment over time.

The Invisalign process involves a series of thermoplastic, comfortable, custom-made aligner trays that you place over your teeth. You should wear your trays for at least 22 hours every day for the best results. You should make sure to follow the instructions Dr. Oh provides.

Every two weeks, you return to Spring Dental Care for your new custom tray. You continue to wear the trays until you’re happy with the look and the feel of your teeth and smile. The Invisalign process usually takes between six to 18 months.

Dr. Oh recommends removing your aligners and rinsing them with warm water daily. You might also want to gently brush your aligners using a soft toothbrush.

How does Invisalign work?

During your initial consultation, Dr. Oh produces impressions of your teeth that are utilized to form a 3D model. The 3D model allows Dr. Oh to plan the movement of your teeth and formulate an individualized treatment plan.

With Invisalign, you can see how your straightened teeth will look and preview your results by viewing a digital design and 3D computer simulation. Dr. Oh might be able to give you an estimated time frame for your Invisalign treatment.

Your custom aligner trays are created in a dental lab. Every two weeks, your replacement trays work to shift your teeth into place until you’re satisfied with the new alignment.

After your Invisalign treatment, Dr. Oh might suggest that you wear a retainer made from the same material as your aligner trays to help keep your teeth aligned and ensure they don’t drift out of place.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Spring Dental Care offers Invisalign due to the many benefits. Invisalign is successful in treating overbites, crossbites, underbites, and open bites. Invisalign also works well for overcrowded, misaligned, and crooked teeth.

Some of the benefits of Invisalign include:

  • A smooth, comfortable thermoplastic material that doesn’t poke or irritate your gums.
  • Removable trays that allow you to eat and brush your teeth
  • Discretion (near-invisible plastic)
  • Proven effectiveness for all ages, including adolescents and children
  • 20 years of clinical research
  • A compliance indicator to monitor how long adolescents are wearing their aligner trays

Invisalign avoids many of the problems commonly associated with traditional metal braces, such as unsightly and uncomfortable brackets and tightening wires.
